Amy Ann:

What is the inspiration behind Steam Lounge & Spa?

Paula Loney:

After a separation from my last job I decided that I needed to go into business for myself. I wanted to give back by taking care of others. After commuting back and forth every day to work I saw first hand the skin appearance of strangers, and felt that I needed to be part of something that can encourage people to take more care of themselves by pampering the mind, body and soul. I believe that self-love should be more than an option it should be a duty to oneself. With everything that’s going on in the world today I wanted to open a business where people can take themselves away from the daily stressors. I saw an opportunity to do facials and body treatments while teaching clients the value of self-awareness. I enrolled in Aveda Institute of NYC where I found and fell in love with my passion. I obtained my State Board Licensed and started my business right away.

AA:

What are your favorite services to perform and why?

PL:

One of my favorite service is facials because I love to hear about my clients experiences when they awake the next day to glowing and smooth skin.

AA:

What are some of the negative circumstances you've faced as a newly established esthetician?

PL:

I wouldn't really consider it as negative, but more so a challenge. Financially when you are unable to get funding it can be a bit challenging because the money is not all there to put everything you want into place.

AA:

What are some of your new personal care services that you are now providing?

PL:

We provide facials, sauna therapy, body treatments, body waxing, as well as massages. Some of our new services that I am excited to announce that we now provide is v-steaming and teeth whitening.

AA:

For the readers that may not know what an esthetician is how would you describe your title, and why is it so important?

PL:

An esthetican is a person who specializes in skincare. We perform corrective skin treatments to aid in helping our clients get that clean smooth skin they've been looking for. It is important to have a daily routine when taking care of your skin. This skin is the largest organ on our body and at most times it gets neglected. And as a result it can leave your skin cells dry, dull and dehydrated.

AA:

It seems like your services cater more to women, do you provide services to men as well? If so, why do you think men care less about self-care than women?

PL:
My services are catered to women, men and children. Men tend to be reluctant because of lack of information and stereotype of gender and race.

AA:

Where do you see Steam Lounge & Spa in the next 5 years?

PL:
In the next 5 years Steam Lounge & Spa will evolve into larger luxury spa, I continue to
treat all of my clients as VIP’s and maintain a private serene environment.
